Waitlisted at the GSB

The phone didn't ring yesterday afternoon so I knew that wasn't a good sign. So, this morning when the official decision was announced I had prepared myself for the "ding". However, I recieved this instead...

Dear Bschool Diva,

Your application to the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business has received the careful consideration of our Admissions Committee. While we are impressed with your application, we are unable to provide you with a final decision at this time and will place you on our waitlist for consideration in Round 2. I want to assure you that being placed on the waitlist signals our sincere interest in your candidacy.

This year, our Round 1 application process was highly competitive. While Chicago GSB is grateful to have so many talented students seeking to join us in Fall 2008, we are simply not able to admit all of our most qualified candidates. As a result, the Committee will review your application again as part of the Round 2 application pool. When we do so, we will give special consideration to your file. While we hope to enroll as many Round 1 waitlist candidates as possible, the possibility does exist that some students will continue to be on the waitlist through subsequent rounds.

In the meantime, if there is additional information you believe would be helpful to the Admissions Committee, please forward it to my attention with a cover letter clearly stating that we are holding your application on our waitlist. In addition, you are more than welcome to visit Chicago GSB at any time, though this is not necessary and will not impact your candidacy. Additionally, should you choose to make other plans, and no longer wish to be considered for a spot in the Class of 2010, please let me know as soon as possible.

Although I am not happy with being waitlisted, I am glad that it isn't a "no" and I am still very hopeful that I can make it into the class.
